Basic Firearms Training offers 4 levels of basic handgun courses to help students build their knowledge about handguns and ultimately become safe, confident and effective with their handguns. Unless otherwise noted, courses are 4 to 5 hours in length. Course length varies by session as each group is different, so please ensure you aren't on a time crunch in case we go over time a bit. Each course has a brief refresher of the previous course's material before introducing new material.
Levels 2-4 are for semi-automatic handguns only (helps keep everyone moving smoothly through the drills). Students must perform in a safe manner in order successfully pass the class and progress to the next level course.
This 4 hour course introduces new shooters to semi-automatic and revolver handguns. This class will focus on firearms safety, firearms storage and transportation laws, types of handguns, handgun nomenclature and operation, ammunition, and considerations for handgun selection / purchase. This course will briefly introduce students to marksmanship fundamentals (level 2 course).
To achieve our training goals and objectives, we will use a mix of lecture, demonstrations, and hands on practice. We will use both dry and live fire drills. This course will take place entirely on a shooting range.
Students need to bring their pistol, 2 magazines, eye and ear protection, and 100 rounds of factory new ammunition.
NOTE: if you do not yet own a handgun, you may rent one from me for $10 each plus the cost of ammunition. Ammunition must be paid for in CASH on the day of the class. Please call ahead to check firearm and ammunition availability and ammunition pricing.
Prerequisite: Safe and positive attitude. Ability to safely follow directions.
This 4 hour course introduces students to drawing their pistol from their holster and presenting it to the target as well improving their marksmanship fundamentals and reloading and stoppage (malfunction) clearing skills.
To achieve our training goals and objectives, we will use a mix of lecture, demonstrations, and hands on practice. We will use both dry and live fire drills. This course will take place entirely on a shooting range.
Students need to bring their pistol, an EXPOSED holster, 3 magazines, magazine pouch / holder and 300 rounds of ammunition.
Prerequisite: Students must meet one of the following:

This 4 hour course incorporates and builds upon the skills learned in level 2. In this course, students are introduced to cover, concealment and movement. Students will learn to identify cover and concealment, how to shoot from cover, and how to tactically move, reload and clear stoppages while using cover and concealment.
To achieve our training goals and objectives, we will use a mix of lecture, demonstrations, and hands on practice. We will use both dry and live fire drills. This course will take place entirely on a shooting range.
Students need to bring their pistol, an EXPOSED holster, 3 magazines, magazine pouch / holder and 300-350 rounds of ammunition.
Prerequisite: Students must meet one of the following:

This 6-8 hour course incorporates and builds upon the skills learned in levels 1-3. In this course, students are introduced to operating their handguns in a low light or night environment. Students will learn how to incorporate a flashlight while operating their handgun, including when shooting from cover, clearing stoppages, reloading. Students will also learn how to tactically move from cover to cover when using a flashlight. Course begins in the afternoon and finishes in the evening. Course material is introduced during daylight hours to ensure students are able to operate their handguns in a safe manner. Students will apply newly acquired skills during low light / night conditions in the evening. Students who cannot safely or satisfactorily operate their handgun while using a flashlight will NOT be allowed to shoot in low light / night conditions. Instead, they may observe the low light portion of the class.
Students need to bring their pistol, an EXPOSED holster, 3 magazines, magazine pouch / holder, a flashlight (and charger or spare batteries) and 300-350 rounds of ammunition.
