About Instructor

Philip Webster - Owner and Lead Instructor

In 1997, I enlisted in the United States Army. I served 4 years on active duty and deployed to Bosnia in 1998. Upon discharge from Active duty in 2001, I joined the California Army National Guard and served there until 2005.

In 2005, I graduated from a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Peace Officers Basic Course (police academy). I subsequently began working for a special district in Northern California performing security operations / public safety duties.

In 2013, I attended a POST firearms instructor course. Upon completion, I became a firearms instructor for my department.

In 2015, I became a Bureau of Security & Investigative Services (BSIS) licensed firearms instructor.

I served as a department firearms instructor for 10 years, primarily as the lead firearms instructor. As the lead instructor, I selected, worked, and trained with 3 very talented firearms instructors. Together, with assistance from our local sheriff’s office firearms training staff, we developed and maintained a quality firearms training program for our department.

I also coordinated department training, such as firearms training, PC 832 Arrest, Search & Seizure, Emergency Vehicle Operations Course, Active Shooter Response, and more with outside agencies and public safety training facilities.

In 2016, I founded Basic Firearms Training to provide training primarily for CCW and BSIS Exposed Firearms Permit courses.

Since 2012, I have attended a variety of courses, instructor level and other. Some were through my employer’s training partnership with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, and some were done on my own.

I will continue to expand my training to help me build and maintain relevant courses that meet the training needs of my clients, as I look to expand the course offerings of Basic Firearms Training.
