This 3-hour online course covers Part A of the BSIS Power to Arrest & Appropriate Use of Force course.
The Power to Arrest & Appropriate Use of Force course has two parts – Power to Arrest (Part A) and Appropriate Use of Force (Part B). The complete Power to Arrest & Appropriate Use of Force course is 8 hours.
To complete Part A online, students must complete all Part A lessons.
BSIS mandates that Part B (5 hours) be completed in-person.
To complete Part B, register for an in-person class with Basic Firearms Training. Basic Firearms Training conducts in-person training in Sacramento County.
The written exam will be administered in-person during the completion of Part B training. The written exam covers content from both Parts A and B.
The written exam is open-book, and the passing score is 100%. If a student fails, they may view their incorrect answers, review the course material, and answer the questions again.
Important notes:
- BSIS does not accept more than one certificate of completion for the course (e.g. separate instructors / training facilities signing off on each part of the course)
- BSIS strongly recommends that applicants complete both parts with the same instructor / training facility.
- Basic Firearms Training will only issue a certificate of completion to those who complete both Parts A and B with Basic Firearms Training (online and/or in-person).
