How to obtain and renew a West Sacramento Police Department CCW

Quick facts about a West Sacramento Police CCW permit

1. Permit is issued by the West Sacramento Police Department.
2. Must be 21 years of age or older.
3. Permit is valid for 2 years.
4. You may associate an unlimited number of firearms with your CCW, but only 3 firearm descriptions can fit on your permit. Firearms must be registered in the permit holder’s name with the California Department of Justice.
5. Initial training course is 16 hours. Renewal course is 8 hours.
6. Must pass a written exam and shooting qualification for both initial and renewal courses.
7. No rifle calibers are allowed on the permit

How to obtain an initial Sacramento County CCW permit

1. Apply online for a new CCW permit via the West Sacramento Police Department’s Permitium page here: https://westsacramentopdca.permitium.com/ccw/start
2. When applying for the permit, you’ll need to schedule an interview with the Police Department’s CCW unit.
3. While patiently waiting for your interview appointment, routinely check back for appointment cancellations so you can reschedule for an earlier appointment.
4. Attend your interview with the CCW unit.
5. Complete your Live Scan as directed by the CCW unit.

7. Complete your CCW course and submit your training documents to the CCW unit via their Permitium page.
8. Pick up your new CCW permit from the Police Department when notified that its available for pick up.

How to renew your West Sacramento Police Department CCW permit

The Police Department does not accept renewal applications more than 30 days before the permit expiration date.
